The GNU Image Manipulation Program
The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a powerful image
composition and editing program, which can be extremely useful for
creating logos and other graphics for webpages. The GIMP has many of
the tools and filters you would expect to find in similar commercial
offerings, and some interesting extras as well. The GIMP provides a
large image manipulation toolbox, including channel operations and
layers, effects, sub-pixel imaging and anti-aliasing, and conversions,
all with multi-level undo.

inkscape
Vector-based drawing program using SVG
Inkscape is a vector-based drawing program, like CorelDraw® or Adobe
Illustrator® from the proprietary software world, and Sketch or Karbon14 from
the free software world. It is free software, distributed under the terms of
the Gnu General Public License, Version 2.
Inkscape uses W3C SVG as its native file format. It is therefore a very useful
tool for web designers and as an interchange format for desktop publishing.
It has a relatively modern display engine, giving you finely antialiased
display, alpha transparencies, vector fonts and so on. Inkscape is written in
C and C++, using the Gtk+ toolkit and optionally some Gnome libraries.

scribus
DeskTop Publishing application written in Qt
Scribus is an desktop open source page layout program with
the aim of producing commercial grade output in PDF and
Postscript, primarily, though not exclusively for Linux.
While the goals of the program are for ease of use and simple easy to
understand tools, Scribus offers support for professional publishing
features, such as CMYK color, easy PDF creation, Encapsulated Postscript
import/export and creation of color separations.

gphoto2
Software for accessing digital cameras
The gPhoto2 project is a universal, free application and library
framework that lets you download images from several different
digital camera models, including the newer models with USB
connections. Note that
a) for some older camera models you must use the old "gphoto" package.
b) for USB mass storage models you must use the driver in the kernel
This package contains
i) the library that digital camera applications can use
ii) the command-line utility gphoto2
Other (GUI) frontends are available separately.

The Common UNIX Printing System provides a portable printing layer for
UNIX® operating systems. It has been developed by Easy Software Products
to promote a standard printing solution for all UNIX vendors and users.
CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley command-line interfaces.

GQview is an image viewer for browsing through graphics files. GQview
features include single click file viewing, support for external
editors, previewing images using thumbnails, and zoom.
