Audacity is a cross-platform multitrack audio editor. It allows you to
record sounds directly or to import Ogg, WAV, AIFF, AU, IRCAM, or MP3
files. It features a few simple effects, all of the editing features
you should need, and unlimited undo. The GUI was built with wxWindows
and the audio I/O currently uses OSS under Linux. Audacity runs on
Linux/*BSD, MacOS, and Windows.

Grip is a GTK+ based front-end for CD rippers (such as cdparanoia and
cdda2wav) and Ogg Vorbis encoders. Grip allows you to rip entire tracks or
just a section of a track. Grip supports the CDDB protocol for
accessing track information on disc database servers.

MuSE
MuSE mixes, encodes, and streams sound.
MuSE is an application for the mixing, encoding, and network streaming of sound.
MuSE can simultaniously mix up to 6 encoded audio bitstreams (from files or network)
plus a souncard input signal. The resulting stream can be played locally on the sound
card and/or encoded as an mp3 bitstream sent to a broadcast server. MuSE offers two
intuitive interfaces (graphical and console) to be operated realtime and can also run
in commandline mode.
MuSE is being developed in the hope to provide the Free Software community with a user
friendly tool for network audio streaming, making life easier for independent free
speech radios.

XMMS is a multimedia (Ogg Vorbis, CDs) player for the X Window System
with an interface similar to Winamps. XMMS supports playlists and
streaming content and has a configurable interface.

xine
Free multimedia player
Xine is a free multimedia player. It plays back CDs, DVDs, and VCDs. It also
decodes multimedia files like AVI, MOV, WMV, and MP3 from local disk drives,
and displays multimedia streamed over the Internet. It interprets many of the
most common multimedia formats available - and some of the most uncommon
formats, too.
This package contains the GUI of the Xine multimedia player.

The new generation of digital camcorders use the Digital Video (DV) data
format. Kino allows you to record, create, edit, and play movies recorded
