Having hashed this out numerous times, I hope I have reduced the argument to equate to other visionaries.

Bill Gates saw the explosion coming. He can verify that he saw it.
He had to choose what kind of pricing plan to assign as everything developed.

If he charged too little, there would be no value.
If he charged too much, scalping would've been the charge.
He couldn't win.

Henry Ford picked a price his workers could afford. That worked for him.
The railroad barons scalped and paid the price. No longer around are they?

A visionary pays the price for being at the right place at the right time.

One of the many fringe benefits of not using Windows is that my family can no longer come to me with their IT problems.

I think he did made a change in the world. But he sold his ideas to become rich. I think a true genius invents things to make a change in human history. But lot of smart people are only doing it for the money. It's sad but money rules the world.

Bill Gates is/was an a**hole! He stole the original DOS from the person who wrote it, he conned IBM and the world into believing he was some kind of genius. He coerced hardware and software makers into going with M$ and no one else, and now he is trying to save his "soul" by being a public philanthropist. What a (bad) joke! It's like the old days of buying a dispensation from the catholic church to get into Heaven no matter how much you have sinned. I avoid all MS 'warez like the plague they are !-mike

PS- I am running Ubuntu now previously Mandriva, Mandrake, various Red Hat versions,SUSE and others

I may well do that soon. I am waiting (im)patiently for the raspberry pi to ship, sometime next month. When I do get one BLAG is one of the distros I want to try on it. Probably Fedora first since it looks like that is what will be ready at release time, then maybe Puppy and BLAG. It's ARM 11 with storage on an SD card. Only 256 M of RAM (non-expandable) so it will be interesting to see what can be done. Check it out folks!!

http://www.raspberrypi.org/ At $25-$35 it could be a real "peoples computer"
